I've seen Árus used frequently instead of Áras. Eg. Árus an Uachtaráin, Busárus.
Is it a valid spelling?

An seanlitriú atá ann, sin an méid. Ní úsáidtear anois é.

GRMA a Dhennis. Feicim an litriú sin (Árus) go minic ar an mbus agus ar an Luas. Ní raibh aithne agam cén fáth.

u and a were frequently left in free running variation in the past when in unstressed positions, as they would be expected to be pronounced the same due to centralising tendencies of the context

Tabhair súil ar an suíomh seo má tá an leagan "oifigiúil" uait.

Even Scottish Gaelic, which tends to be more conservative in the area of pronunciation/spelling, has updated the spelling from "àros" to "àras".
