Nuair a bhí mé ag siortú i measc leathanaigh m'fhoclóra thug mé faoi deara go bhfuil saibhreas faoi leith ag baint leis na dathanna i nGaeilge. Féach ar na nótaí seo leanas a bhreac mé síos.
While rummaging through the dictionary on the group project I noticed that there's a special richness in Irish on the whole subject of colour. Here are a few notes I made.

Liath
(Ní féidir 'liath' na Gaeilge a chomparáidiú sa chruinne le 'grey' an Bhéarla agus ar ndóigh ní raibh focal ar bith ar 'grey' sa Laidin.)

bricliath - streaked with grey
glasdonn - hazel-grey
glasdubh - dark grey
tláithghlas - pale grey/green
liathadh an choilm - dove grey
ar dhath ubh an chlochráin blue-grey, (the colour of the stonechat's egg)
fonn liath - grey-white
súile riabacha - grey eyes
spadliath - dull grey, greyest of grey
támhliath - dull grey
liathbhán - greyish-white
lathbhuí - sallow
chomh liath le broc - as grey as a badger
chomh liath le luch - as grey as a mouse
chomh liath leis an iolar - as grey as the eagle
chomh liath leis an gceo - as grey as the fog


Glas

dúbhuaine - dark green
glas (na) mara - sea green
glas olóige - olive green
smaragaide - emerald green
glasliath - pale green
glasuaine - vivid green
bánghlas - pale green
foruaine - verdant, deep green
fionnghlas - light green
glaise na sáiste - sage green
liathghlas - bottle green
bánghlas - pale green
pisghlas - pea-green
breacghlas - speckled green
treathanghlas - sea green
eochairghlas - green bordered

Dearg

dúbhdhearg - dark red
flann - bloody red
flanndearg - vermilion
flannrua - blood-red
caordhearg - cherry red
corcairdhearg - crimson
cródhearg - blood red
fíondaite - wine coloured
ruamanta - tinged with red
ruamheirg - red discolouration of water from iron-ore rust

Buí

dúbhbuí - dark yellow
glasbhuí - greenish yellow
tláithbhuí - pale yellow
cróchbhuí - saffron yellow
buíbhán - light yellow, cream coloured
buíbhreac - speckled with yellow
crón - dark yellow, tan, swarthy colour
crónbhuí - dark yellow, coppery

Gorm

glasghorm - steely blue
bánghorm - pale blue
tláithghorm - pale blue
gorm dorcha - dark blue
liathghorm - blue-grey
dúghorm - navy

Dubh

ciardhubh - jet-black
chomh dubh le hairne - as black as a sloe
chomh dubh le le bac - as black as a hob
chomh dubh le cleite an fhéich - as black as the raven's feather
chomh dubh le gual - as black as coal
chomh dubh le pic - as black as pitch
chomh dubh le sméar - as black as a berry
chomh dubh le tóin corcáin - as black as the bottom of a pot
chomh dubh le Poll Tí Liabáin - as black as Erebus
dubh gorm - black and blue

Bán

lachtbhán - milk-white
déad cailce - white teeth

Donn

cnódhonn - nut-brown, hazel
dath na gréine - tan
dúchrón - black and tan

Dathanna Eile

bándearg - pink
liathdhearg - pale pink, pinkish
corcairghorm - violet
corcra - purple

Domhan draíochta ann féin domhan na ndathanna i nGaeilge ach mar fhocal scoir is leor a rá go ndearnadh briathar de gach dath: bánaigh, buígh, donnaigh, dubhaigh agus ar uile.
