A Chairde, The has been some discussion recently about the meaning and pronunciation of some entries in An Gúm's Foclóir Póca/Foclóir Scoile and De Bhaldraithe's English-Irish Dictionary, also published by An Gúm. I have speculated that the pronunciation for the word anois in Foclóir Póca/Foclóir Scoile is simply a typographical error; that is, instead of ə'nos', the pronunciation should be ə'nis'. And in De Bhaldraithe's dictionary, under the entry for thank, the phrase A thousand thanks! should be be go raibh míle maith agat instead of go raibh céad maith agat. I plan on contacting An Gúm to seek clarification of these entries, but thought I would ask the members and unregistered guests of this forum if there are any other typos, incorrect pronunciations, or other discrepancies that I could ask for clarification. Please note that since both these dictionaries are based on the Official Irish Standard, I don't plan on debating the dialectical differences that abound in the Irish language, but rather seek clarification on the entries as the authors originally intended. Go raibh céad míle maith agat, Mac Léinn Foclóirí (Message edited by mac_léinn on February 19, 2007) Mac Léinn as Nua-Gheirsí. Fáilte roimh cheartúcháin, go raibh céad maith agaibh. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/teachyourselfirish http://groups.yahoo.com/group/irishlinguistics
