Feicim sa FGB dhá thrí. Is that the same as dá thrí?

Fáilte roimh cheartúcháin, go raibh céad maith agaibh.

Tá scéal agam. My colleagues and I were returning from the fall Jamison Daltaí immersion weekend. I had bought a copy of Aesops Fables i nGaeilge. We spent over an hour translating one story about a sionnach. It made the four hour car ride seem to fly by. We felt good when we were done but we also knew we have a long way to go in mastering our Irish. Tá scéal(ta?) a lán eile agam.

Scéal maith a Mhaidhc. I'm hoping that your two sentences in Irish qualify your posting as acceptable from a topic-control viewpoint. I focail eile, taimid chomh glic le sionnach leis na dlíthe atá i bhfeidhm (the laws in force)

GRMA a Aonghuis - that's what I thought, or was hoping. Caithfidh mé an ceist cur ag mo mhac. He told me a story of how 33 was related somehow to 66.

Tá tú ar an mbealach mícheart, a Mhac.

Ní oibríonn an scéal ach amháin i nGaeilge.

(An Aimsir Láithreach)

Tá an scéal leantach seo agam. Déanann mo pháistí maisiúcháin Nollag. Úsáideann siad siúcra agus bruitheann siad na maisiúcháin seo. Tá boladh iontach acu. Crochann na páistí na maisiúcháin Nollag seo ar an gCrann Nollag. Maisíonn an chlann leo freisin. Áfach is breá le ár madra milseáin. Itheann an madra na maisiúcháin seo den chraobhach. Tá ár bpáistí ag gol anois.

Le meas,

Maidhc

Maith thú, a Mhaidhc! An raibh an madra tinn ina dhiaidh sin?
quote:

Tá an scéal leantach seo agam.

"a leanas" a deirtear in áit "leantach": Tá an scéal seo a leanas agam.

a leanas = which follows
leantach = repeated, consecutive

Pointe stíle: is féidir abairt a thosú le "Ach..." i nGaeilge, ach is fearr gan í a thosú le "Áfach...".

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."

Go raibh maith agat, a Dennis. Ní raibh an madra tinn ina dhiaidh sin, ach bhí imní orainn. Tháinig sé ar fad faoi dheireadh!

Go raibh maith agat arís, a Dennis. Ní raibh an madra tinn ina dhiaidh sin, ach bhí imní orainn. Tháinig sé amach ar fad faoi dheireadh!

My follow-up story (scéal leantach) was a reference to my above posting nuair a bhí ag scríobh i mBéarla faoi sionnach. I will now wait for others, including yourself , to post their short stories i nGaeilge.

Mac an dá trí Ó Sé!

Tá do ghandal á róstadh your gander is being roasted

The latter has two echoes for me:
tá an gabhar á róstadh in X the goat is being roasted in X = there's a helluva party on there
Tá mo chleamhnas á dhéanamh my match is a' making (tad. song)

Tuille(adh) seafóide:

dó agus a ceathair, sin sé
bó agus tarbh, sin lao!

Mac an dá trí = Ó Sé!

Fan bomaite - I thought Ó meant grandson. So, wouldn't Mac an dá trí = Mac Sé or Mc Sé?
