I know that there are a few places I can find irish language programs on the web, will someone tell me where they are, and what dialect they're in? |

My favorite is Ros Na Rún. You'll hear all types of dialects on the show. One character, Angela had a really noticeable Ulster accent. She's off the show for a bit. Her character gained a dose of concience and went back to "Donegal". It's a great show with some pretty interesting story lines with the acting ranging from great to just OK. Is minic a bhris beál duine a shrón.

Ní mhaith liom ag cuir focal isteach i mbéal Mhíchíl, ach sílim go mbraitheann sé ar an gcaoi mhór abhíonn an seó leat i gcás seo. Bíonn maith liom TG4 agus RnaG leis ó am go ham. (Message edited by Maidhc_Ó_G. on February 04, 2007) |

Ní thuigim thú. Tá an aimsir go hiontach. The weather is wonderful. (Buntús Cainte, Ceacht 2) Tá TG4 go hiontach. TG4 is wonderful. Is breá liom Ros Na Rún, Adharca Fada, agus clár eile. Le do thoil scríobh TG4 agus inis dóibh. The people at TG4 love to hear from us and are great about communicating with us. I would like to see TG4 have a 24 hour programming schedule and multiple channels within their new corporate structure. By the way, I go by Maidhc, not Michael, even though a Google search reveals that there are 140,000 hits for Mícheál, 263,000 for Micheál, and only 850 for Maidhc. Feicim Maidhc sa seó Aifric ar an dTG4. Is breá liom Aifric freisin. As I have said before, it is impossible to change the registered name at this site unless you de-register and re-register. So I have let it be, and put what I go by in the signature. Maidhc Is mise leabharlannaí Mol an lá um thránóna Fáilte roimh cheartú

Go raigh maigh agat, Maidhc agus James. I found Ros Na Run, but it only appears that I can watch what has already been recorded on the WebTV option. I saw a few programs on the Schedule section I'd watch, like Dora the Explorer, (I figure that a cartoon which has the purpose of teaching you the language is probably a good place to start for someone trying to learn the language,) but like Ros Na Run, I can't seem to access them. And if it were just because they are not on NOW, then something else would be on now, right, which would tip me off as to how I can access either show. How can I watch them? |

This is what I thought at first too, but then I realized that TG4 is not on all the time. You will see it live when it is on and will have to watch the archives when it is not on. I believe that TG4 needs more resources to go live for longer periods. Maidhc Nuair a amhras a bheith ort, téigh chun an leabharlann - Kate Charles Fáilte roimh cheartú

Are you saying that the thing itself cannot have wonder but that the person experiences the wonder and it is this that is expressed in Irish? If so, why do I see examples of what I originally wrote all over the place? I will definitely need to correct my way of thinking here. Tá an abairt "Tá TG4 iontach liom" a scríobh Maidhc amháin mícheart. Céard a scríobh tusa ar dtús, a Mhaidhc (alias Mícheál)? "An seanchas gearr, an seanchas is fearr."

Nuair a amhras a bheith ort Má bhíonn amhras ort téigh chun na leabharlainne - Kate Charles | When in doubt go to the library | We have too many Maidhcs. Maidhc O G is the person I was correcting. This message http://www.daltai.com/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/daltai/discus/show.pl?tpc=20&post=52347#PO ST52347 My nitpick with the Maidhc whose handle is Míchéal would only be that on this side of the pond we would write to TG4. |

This is one reason why I left myself registered as Mícheál. Is mise Maidhc; is mise leabharlannaí. However, it still stands that I have a lot more work to do in studying my Irish and in thinking like an Irishman. . Tá mé ag dul go dtí Superbowl anois. Tá a fhios agam - níl sé Six Nations - ach .... Maidhc Má bhíonn amhras ort téigh chun na leabharlainne - Kate Charles Fáilte roimh cheartú

Sorry, ach tá taom beachtóireachta orm anocht! Is mise Maidhc; is mise leabharlannaí mise. nó Is mise Maidhc; is mise an leabharlannaí. but the latter would mean a definite Librarian. Tá a fhios agam - níl sé Six Nations na Sé Náisiúin atá ann.... Bain taitneamh as an tSár Bhabhla! (The usual rules apply - being pedantic means I have almost certainly erred above.) |

Scríobh Maidhc (nós Mícheál): "You will see it live when it is on and will have to watch the archives when it is not on." Pray tell, how do I watch the archives of the shows on the TG4 schedule, i.e., what is the URL for the archives? Go raigh maigh agat. (the more I write that, the better I get.) :) |

A chairde, I have a 1.5-speed DSL connection, and when I watch the archived programs on tg4 the audio is fine but the colors are all weird, making it unwatchable. Are you all experiencing the same thing at that speed? Am I doomed to the weird colors unless I get a cable connection? Go raibh maith agaibh. Céad slán, Paul |

Scríobh Dennis: "An ag magadh atá sé? Go raibh maith agat." Oops. Apparently I spoke too soon. I don't know what "An ag magadh atá sé?" means, but I'm guessing maybe, "are you sure?" :) Go raibh maith agat, Dennis. |

Finbarr, Quote: Pray tell, how do I watch the archives of the shows on the TG4 schedule, i.e., what is the URL for the archives? Go to: http://www.tg4.tv/ In left hand column, click under Beo ar an Aer (Live) the choice that you would like to see: Cúla 4 - Cartlann Ceol - Cartlann Spórt - Cartlann Dráma - Cartlann Cúrsaí Reatha - Cartlann Cláir Eile - Cartlann Faisnéis - Cartlann Siamsaíocht - Cartlann Within each category then click on PLAY at the individual program you want. I have a higher speed cable connection and when I select the two four options in the options part of tg4.tv I get a very good viewing experience. Right, I've done that, but it seems that the only programs I get there, minus what is live, are concerts, game shows, and news. Not that they are not interesting, I was just looking for specific programs. |

Finbarr, did you scroll down within each category and select from the descriptions given? The same picture icons are depicted for each of the series' programs. TG4 can keep only a program for 35 days in the archive until it is shown live again. I have watched dramas, documentaries, talk shows, fashion shows, and so on. Hope this helps. dúirt james: "Angela had a really noticeable Ulster accent. She's off the show for a bit. Her character gained a dose of concience and went back to "Donegal". there are at least 2 other very nice and very noticeable ulster speakers on the show. btw, angela headed east (se), not north! not sure what you mean by 'gained a dose of concience." agus, you can buy most tg4 programmes in vhs or dvd format, ach, tá sé daor go leor, go huafásach! |

"Gained a dose of concience"... Angela was trying to shake down Taidhg for controlling interest in his Pub. She had a lawyer involved and everything. Although Manus was not his child (he was John Joe's child) she was trying to extort money from Taidhg. Taidhg is "shooting blanks" so-to-speak and could not be the father but Angela played upon his ego knowing that he would want to keep his "inabilities" a secret. In the end however, Angela "gained a dose of concience" and let the issue drop. I thought she returned to Donegal but perhaps she did go "east". Ironically, now Una is facing her past with Mo. I'm curious to see if John Joe will stand by her as she did for him when his past relationship with Angela became public. OK....do I have to officially turn over my testosterone ration card now??? I am a total addict for this show!!! Is minic a bhris beál duine a shrón.
