He really wants to know what kind or breed of potato the chips (fries) are made from. Ta bron orm as an OT teachtaireacht. Beir bua agus beannacht |

In my posting above, would cá be put in past tense and would the next word be eclipsed? Even in present tense I should have eclipsed it too, right? There probably is a better way to express the notion of being told something everytime you come into the place. I will wait for mo mhúinteoirí anseo to respond. GRMMA. Okay, I am working on the naith eile, another idiomatic expression, saol fata i mbéal muice. I found two references on the net: Imríodh an cluiche sin ar an Domhnach agus pé seans a bhí faighte ag an bhfoireann go dtí seo, ní raibh aon duine ag tabhairt saol fata i mbéal muice dóibh in aghaidh Chiarraí, ach arís óráid bhreá eile ón gcaptaen, cúlaithe a bhí crua docht lárpáirce a bhí thar cionn agus tosaithe den scoth. http://www.naomhanna.ie/comortas_cluichi.htm Ach níor chuir na bagairtí sin fuacht ná faitíos ar Ó Riordáin: chroch sé an bhratach dhearg, deis ar bith dá bhfuair sé. Agus 'fhios mhaith go mion minic, nach raibh, agus nach mbeadh, saol fata i mbéal muice aige, i gcoinne FF, FG agus na hEaglaise Rómhánaí Caitlicí. http://www.geocities.com/IrelandSCW/ibvol-MoRLa.htm Something about life in a pig's mouth or something. Níl a fhios agam an focal fata. Feicim "fata morgana" at Focal.ie. Tá an nath eile seo agam: in aice láithreach ach níl todóg agam. I cannot believe that I did not say "ainm dó." When it comes to "Maidhc is ainm dom," I feel dumb. I will keep trying to find the expression in one of my resources. Thanks for the challenge. Ríona, if you have an American keyboard and are running Windows, here's what I use: http://mearchlar.tripod.com/ I find it easier (and less work for the fingers) than the ALT-code method. It's a tiny download, easy to install, and will let you type them in any program you're running - Web browser, email, word processor or whatever. You can also get dotted consonants and a few other goodies with it. If you have (or if anyone has) any trouble installing it, just let me know and I'll be happy to help. Abigail Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

GRMA for all the ideas but with the software that I must use, I cannot do anything with the alt key because it takes me to the menu and cutting and pasting is difficult. With this software I don't use the mouse except very very rarely. |

What software are you using, Ríona? The method I described doesn't take the alt key at all. Once you have that keyboard layout file installed, all you do is press "/" and then the vowel. If you type "/a", it gives you "á" and so on. It should work no matter what software you're running (as long as it's in Windows.) Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!
