A Chairde

With the recent Government stance striving towards a bilingual society, I thought about Luxembourg, a place I have been to a couple of times. All official business is conducted in French, but Letzebuergesch is the community language (or so the Luxemburgers told me).

Is this a model for Ireland? The link below from the official Luxembourg Government tourist site does not seem to hold the language in very high esteem

Tá trí theanga acu ann (An Ghearmáinís chomh maith), ach ní dóigh liom go mbíonn a dteanga fhéin in usáid do rudaí "árda".

Comhthéacs eile atá ann, sa mhéid is go bhfuil an Letzebuergesch in theanga pobail fairsing. Seans nach bhfuil gá leis an cosaint atá de dhíth ag an ngaeilge.

Feicim go bhfuil siad tar éis teanga oifigiúl a dhéanamh de!

Tír na mBascach.. Actually hold it there.. It's not a matter of finding another bilingual society.. An rud aisteach ná bheith id shochaí aontheangach!

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

Ní chreidim-se i náisiúin dá-theangacha. Baintear feidhm as an Bheilg etc go minic mar dheaghshampla tíre a n-oibrigheann an córas soin innti ach dhá thír éagsmhail atá sa Bheilg. De ghnáth, nuair a labhruightear dhá theanga i dtír is am athruighthe atá ann. Tá teanga amháin ag dul chun cinn agus an ceann eile ag meathadh NÓ baintear feidhm as ceann acu mar theanga riaghaltais, oideachais, litridheachta, eolaidheachta, na gcathracha etc agus fágtar an ceann eile fén dtuaith le haghaidh chomhráidh simplidhe sa bhaile, fheirmeoireachta etc (nílim ag rádh ná fuil na rudaí seo tábhachtach). Níor mhaith liom an Ghaedhilg a bheith mar soin. Ní chóir aon ghné bheatha bheith ann ná labhruightear Gaedhilg ann ó ghnáthchainnt fén aimsir sa tsráid go léacht casta fé fhisic i n-ollscoil.

(Tá súil agam go bhfuil sé seo in-léighte.)

Ní teanga de chuid an AE atá ann.

Mar sin atá anois, idir dhaoine áirithe!

Caithfidh go bhfuil i bhfad níos lú tinneas Alzheimer sa tír sin!
