Táim anseo, go raibh agat a Chaitríona agus a Dennis leis an méid a dúirt sibh:)

Táim ag aistriú rudaí ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge agus mar is ghnáth tá deacrachtaí ann:
Tá iarrachtaí déanta agam áfach ach beidh mé an-bhuíoch as aon chabhair

'There was a great deal of work to be done on it as soon as it was dried'
Mise: Bhí an-mhéid oibre le déanamh air chomh luath agus a bhí sé tirim-as it was dry- as it was dried?

'Was making itself felt already'
ag déanamh é féin braite cheana? Béarlachas? Níos nádúrtha?

'Fixing up a good shelter'
Ag deisiú suas fothain mhaith?
'For it would hold me up ....until later'
mar chuirfeadh sé isteach orm..... go déanach?

'For the job I had at hand'
Leis an jab a bhí agam?

'Off I went up the hill'
D'imigh liom suas an chnoic?

'When I got there'
nuair a shroicheas é
nuair a bhaineas amach e?

Go raibh maith agat.
P.

Fáilte ar ais.

Bhí an-mhéid oibre le déanamh air chomh luath agus a bhí sé tirim "an chuid" a bheadh agamsa
'Was making itself felt already' Bhí sé le mothú cheana féin (d'fheadfá "brath" a úsáid - ach is fearr liom mothú nuair is mothúchán atá i gceist
'Fixing up a good shelter' ag coiriú fothain mhaith (Níl mé sásta le seo. Ach ní ritheann aon fhocal do shelter mar rud a tógtar liom. Foscadán - b'fhéidir http://www.focal.ie/Search.aspx?term=shelter)
'For it would hold me up ....until later' chuirfidh sé bac orm ... go dtí níos moille
'For the job I had at hand' Níl mé cinnte an dtuigim cad tá i gceist anseo. An bhfuil tú ag trácht ar phost a bheadh lé fáil agat - nó obair idir lámha agat?
'Off I went up the hill' D'imigh liom suas an chnoic - go breá dar liomsa
'When I got there' is fearr liomsa "bhain amach" ach níl locht agam ar an leagan eile.

D'imigh liom suas an chnoic

D'imigh liom suas an cnoc, a chaithfeas a bheith ann, i mo thuairimsa.

'Rath Dé agus bail Phádraig ar a bhfeicfidh mé ó éireoidh mé ar maidin go gcodlóidh mé san oíche'

Uaireanta is féidir "agus as go brách liom suas an cnoc" a rá -- as if there were no turning back.

Eh!! Ní raibh sé ar intinn agam m'ainm a nochtadh!
Francis = Proinsias
O'Driscoll= O'Drisceóil
P-0-D agus ar scoil chuir daoine SERS i ndiaidh sin...
'Fhéidir liom é sin a athrú thuas?

Ní féidir, faraor. Caithfidh tú d'ainm féin a athrú ina leaba sin.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Fáilte ar ais, a chara. Tá áthas orm go bhfuil tú linn.
Translation offers so many choices.
Some more choices ...shelter - foscadh or dídean

D'úsáid tú an frása 'a nochtadh' thuas. Is breá liom é. B'fhéidir gur féidir leat an frása sin a úsáid le
'Was making itself felt already' (depending on context). Other possibilities that come to mind here are
'cur in iúl' and 'léiriú', but knowing the larger context would help, I think. That's if you want to go with the reflexive form. Aonghus' freagra "le mothú" or maybe 'le sonrú' probably sound more natural, ceapaim.

Re. it was dried!!
Tá sé agat cheana féin thuas: Bhí sé tirim.

Some of the English phrases could have more than one meaning.
Eg. 'For it would hold me up ....until later'
hold me up = support or delay?
Context is everything.
Fiosrach i gcónaí, gabh mo leithscéal...An bhfuil tú ag aistriú leabhar?

Caitríona
