How pleasant to while away some time reading Dinneen's dictionary. I now know that both nóiméad and bomaite - the CO and the Ulster words for "minute" - derive from the same root!
"A moment, a minute" is the translation for the headword nóimeint, with alternatives noimid, noimit, noimeat, nómaint, neoimeint, neomat (Munster) - all a form of móimeint. Turning to the original word from which all these forms derive, móimeint, we read more alternatives, móiméid, múiméid, móimid, móimeit, and buimint. Turning to buimint, we are directed to buimide, where further alternatives are given: bimide, bumaide, buimint, buiminte. How fascinating to think that 18 different forms all derive from the English word "moment"! |

Tá focal "úiméad" ann chomh maith:
e.g., deich nóiméad > deich n(ecl.)+úiméad. Sin é is cúis leis na habairtí mar "trí úiméad", 7rl.
