Is mo réiteach athbhlian a scríobh nios mó as Gaeilge nuair atá mé anseo.

(My New Year's resolution is to write more in Irish when I'm here.)

I would like to thank all the folks, especially (in alphabetical order) Aonghus, Dennis, Caitriona (ca bhfuil sí?), Fear na mBrog, Pangur Dubh, that have helped me improve my Irish during the previous year, and look forward to any help, if anyone is so inclined, for this year also. I don't take the help for granted. It's of immense benefit to me that I have received all the help here with my Irish. Thank you all so much!

I would also like to point out that the efforts of folks like Dennis to encourage us beginners and intermediate learners to write as Gaeilge is critically important for our progress in mastering the Irish language. I understand that some folks take this type of encouragement negatively, but I think it's really a matter that the encouragement causes us to better ourselves, by changing ourselves, which can make us uncomfortable. But isn't that how we all get better at something? We need to struggle, deal with the discomfort, and then the beauty and reality of success is ours.

Bhuel, céard bhur réiteach athbhlian?

I have been here a year too and I have really enjoyed visiting with the all of you and improving my Irish. Now I can understand some of what the all of you say and if I don't understand a message directed to me I can usually figure out the jist of it with Focloir Poca as long as it isn't too long. Perhaps it is forward of me but I view you all as my friends and I enjoy your company very much, even the more surly ones. :)

Go raibh maith agaibh as an cinealtas agus an misniu.

Beir bua agus beannacht

Caitríona anseo: Go raibh maith agat, a Dhalta na Gaeilge (Céard is féidir liom a rá?; Usáidim l@s i Spáinís ☺) Tá brón orm nach raibh mé in ann bheith libh le tamall, ach bhí mé ag staidéar go dian. Le cúnamh Dé beidh céim bainte amach agam sa Spáinis sa samhradh.

Go raibh maith agat arís, a dhalta na Gaeilge (nó a Mhic na Gaeilge más fearr leat é), mar feicim go gcabhraíonn tú féin go mór leis na daltaí go léir anseo. Cé nach bhfuil mé críochnaithe le mo chúrsa fós, déanfaidh mé iarracht caint libh anseo ó am go ham, más féidir liom. Tá súil agam nár chaill mé mo Ghaeilge go léir.

I 2007, ba mhaith liom toradh a fheiceáil ar an méid oibre a chuir mé isteach ar litreacha do phoiliteoirí. B’fhéidir go mbeidh an t-adh liom amárach. Leanfaidh mé ar aghaidh ag iarraidh cúrsaí a fheabhsú i 2007 leis an “troid maith.” Dom féin, b’fhéidir go mbeidh seans agam níos mó ama a chaitheamh sa gháirdín. Tá mé ag tabhairt cead dom féin dul go dtí an pictiúrlann go minic i 2007. Chonaic mé Pan’s Labyrinth agus The Queen agus bhí said iontach (go mór, mór Pan’s Labyrinth).
Athbhliain faoi mhaise do chách,
Caitríona

Dia dhuit, a Chaitríona! Tá mé sasta go bhfuil tú go breá. Scríobh tú a Mhic na Gaeilge, gan Léinn(son of Gaeilge)? Tá sé sin go hiontach! Tá leasainm nua agam anois!

Since my Irish is not too strong, when I first saw your words "Mhic na Gaeilge" I thought you were writing "Men Of Irish (language)." Which then got me to think of the phrase Mná na hÉireann. Which then got me to think of a brandy new phrase that I think is very appropriate for this site:

Mná na Gaeilge!

Tá brón orm nach scríobh mé ainmeacha Róman agus Cionaodh thuas. Tá cuimnhe dona uaireanta, ach tá mé an-bhuíoch as bhur gcuidiú.

Le meas,

Is cuimhin liom 'Mná na Gaeilge' ón díospóireacht a bhí againn fadó ☺. Ach tá áthas orm inniu, mar d'éirigh go maith liom le mo ghuí nuair a bhí mé i Washington agus anois tá bean i gceannas i dteach amháin ansin. B'fhearr liom Cindy i gceannas ach 'Tús maith, ...'

Dia daoibh a Riona agus a BRN,
Céard 'tá sibh ag déanamh i 2007?

A Riona, a chara,
Tá brón orm nach raibh mé ag caint leat le fada ach tá mé ar mo laethanta saoire arís má tá fonn ort caint liom aon uair,

Caitríona

A Chaitriona, Ta se go maith.

Look forward to visiting with you here more for a bit. I never have been able to figure out why you leave but a lot of people seem to do that now and again.

Hi Riona,
Why I leave sometimes? Occasionally it's because I feel less than welcome. You know, like if you walk into a shop and the shopkeeper talks to you in a nasty tone, then you can just walk out again; you don't have to take abuse. Tarlaíonn sé freisin má deireann duine liom nár cóir dom bheith ag smaoineamh faoi rudaí tabhachtacha agus ag caint faoi cúrsaí tabhachtacha. That's oppresion too. Cuireann sé i gcuimhne dom an ré de Fascism a chonaic mé i Pan's Labyrinth. Caithfidh tú an pictiúr sin a fheiceáil. Tá sé go hiontach!

But this time it was mostly because I have to try to immerse myself in a language to learn it. It's not possible for me to do that completely with Spanish but I did need to eliminate my time with some of the other languages to devote serious time to tuning into Spanish. Bhí an-chraic agam sna rangannaí is bhí múinteoirí iontacha agam, (seachas duine amháin).

Is maith an rud é go mbeidh tú ag foghlaim Linguistics. Tá súil agam go mbeidh múinteoir maith agat agus go mbeidh craic agat sa chúrsa freisin,

Caitríona

A Chaitriona, I'd die if I had to immerse myself in Spanish :).

I had to study it for so long with no desire on me to learn it and once that was done I was so happy. I have nothing against the language, I just didn't like studying something that I have no care for. I'm not a good language learner, I don't find grammer fun or exillerating in any way. I just care about Irish and that is all and unfortunately one can't just drink a syrum and wake up the next day with perfect ability in the language of their choice :(

Beir bua agus beannacht

PS how did you figure out that I put up a picture when I hadn't posted anything with it yet.

Draíocht

Bhuel, i ndáiríre, bhí mé ag caint faoin Movie agus scríobh mé pictiúr in áit scannán.

Is brea liom do phictiúr!

re. I'd die if I had to immerse myself in Spanish... Not if you had Prof. Barros Grela http://www.csun.edu/%7Eeb1702/Spanish/public_html/Facultyprueba2.htm

...an múinteoir is fearr san ollscoil.

Ha ha I guess that's what I get for not actually looking what you said in my FP. :( Today I've done far too many embarassing things.

Nothing near what I've done in my lifetime I'm sure, ach níl mé ag dul ag insint na scéalta sin anseo.
