I thought I had already posted this but I guess not. Thank you all for your help thus far. I have picked my translations and would like you to agree or disagree with them because I want to be sure they are widely accepted translations before they are inked this week.

1. Breathe: análaigh = meaning to remind myself to breathe

2. Strength: gus = force, vigour, resource, enterprise, spirit, gumption
(There is a calligraphic, ideographic-looking rendering of the word, from a text in the Book of Leinster, at: http://quidnunc.net/~garyi/noda/notae.html)
*Does this rendering of "gus" look alright or is it confusing/hard to understand? It would be unique to have a design for the word, but I would not want it on my skin if no one would be able to tell it said "gus."

GRMA for your help. It has been greatly appreciated.

Can anyone please let me know if they'd agree with the translations? Is there a better translation or would those I have listed be best?

GRMA.

no. yes!

the nod would be unusual. Perhaps you could combine it with the same thing in roman letters below?

I was just planning on having one version of the word since it would be a tattoo. If the "symbol" for gus does not translate, then I would need to spell it out g-u-s. Do you mean the nod being unusual is a good thing (unique) or a bad idea (no one would know what I am talking about)? GRMA.

Both!

I was suggesting you use the nod as a pciture, and write GUS in smaller letters below. Of course, most anglophones will think gus is your boyfriend...
