Ceist agam oraibh
Tá cárta nollag os mo chomhair agus scríofa air tá ".... is bliain nua mhaith"

'bhfuil sé sin ceart?

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

Sé atá san "is" ná giorrúchán ar "agus":

...agus bliain nua mhaith

Tá an ghramadach ceart, ach tá an bhrí beagán claon. Tá an chuma ar an scéal go bhfuiltear ag déanamh iarrachta rá:

...and a Happy New Year

Ach tá dhá fhadhb leis sin:

(1) Ní deirtear "An Bhliain Nua" i nGaeilge seachas "An Athbhliain" nó "An Bhliain Úr".
(2) Ciallíonn "maith" "good" seachas "happy".

Feictear dom nach cainteoir oilte a scríobh é.

-- Fáilte Roimh Cheartú --
Ná húsáidigí focail Béarla agus sibh ag labhairt Gaeilge liom, le bhur dtoil. Ní thabharfaidh mé freagra do theachtaireacht ar bith a bhfuil "Gaeilge" neamhghlan inti.

Bhuel sea, sin a cheapas. Thuig mé "is" in ionad "agus" ach níor tháinig mé ar "mhaith" sa chás seo cheana.

Athbhliain faoi mhaise

Nollaig faoi shéan is athbhliain faoi mhaise, a chairde. Ní raibh mé ag caint libh le fada.
