That sounds grand. I need some sean nos music for Christmas but I don't know which singer to get since the one I wanted to obtain a CD of has her CDs very expensive. Anyone know of good sean nos singers whose music is available to order on the website?

What sean-nós (if any) do you have already, Ríona? Who are some of your favorites? How much of a purist are you inclined to be about it?

Without knowing any of that, here's a short list of my own favorites...

Connemara: Peadar Ó Ceannabháin's album "Mo Chuid den tSaol" is outstanding! If I had to pick one CD to be stranded with on a desert island, that'd be the one.

Also very much worth getting is Nan Tom Teaimín, "Traditional Songs from Connemara."

Seosamh Ó hÉanaí is one of the best but I wasn't too taken with the album CIC has of his ("The Road from Connemara.") He's in much better form on, say, "Ó mo Dhúchas."

Ulster: Conall Ó Gallchóir and Doimnic Mac Ghiolla Bhríde are both very good. Doimnic has the best version of "An Droighneán Donn" I've ever heard.

Lillis Ó Laoire's "Bláth Gach Géag dá dTig" is another favorite of mine, but it seems people either love or hate his voice. Listen to the sound clips and decide for yourself. :)

Munster: I don't really have that many Munster CDs (yet.) One I can particularly recommend is Nioclás Tóibín's "Rinn na nGael." His version of "Na Connerys" will knock your socks off!
Éilís Ní Shúilleabháin's CD "Cois Abhainn na Séad" is also very good.

Another Munster singer who deserves a mention is Eilín Ní Bheaglaoich. I wouldn't call her album "Míle Dath" sean-nós really -- more like classical/sean-nós fusion -- but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

If you're very strict about your sean-nós (absolutely no instruments, no singing in English, etc.) then some of these won't suit you. Let me know and I can trim down the list...

Abigail

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

A Abigail,

I havn't any sean nos yet so your list sounds grand. I'm not picky since I don't have any yet, I'll take anything you think sounds nice since I know you to be an authority on the matter judging on your previous posts on the subject. GRMA to the both of yourselves, Abigail agus Ceolmhar for helping me.
