uirrdhiughadh

Seo dhaoibh focal a bhfuil cuma an-spéisiúl sa seanlitriú aige, cé nach bhfuil sé ach ina théarma teangeolaíochta forleathan ar fad. Leis an fhírinne a rá, bhí sé ag cinneadh orm é seo a athneachtáil sa gcuma seo nó gur thug mé féachaint ar na samplaí a bhí ina aice. An bhféadfadh sibh a rá céard tá i gceist leis sin agus gan fhoclóir a úsáid?

'Rath Dé agus bail Phádraig ar a bhfeicfidh mé ó éireoidh mé ar maidin go gcodlóidh mé san oíche'

Sin é. Nach gcuireann an litriú seo scanradh agus sceoin an domhain ortsa?

'Rath Dé agus bail Phádraig ar a bhfeicfidh mé ó éireoidh mé ar maidin go gcodlóidh mé san oíche'

"Urdhubhadh, act of darkening, obscuring, eclipsing."

An litriú a bhí ag Seathrún Céitinn (Nua-Ghaeilge Chlasaiceach) ná "urdhubhadh", nach bhfuil chomh scanrúil le "uirrdhiughadh". Bhí sé níos fearr ó thaobh na sanasaíochta de freisin, mar tá an focal "dubh" le feiceáil ann. "Darkening" an chiall a bhí leis ar dtús. Urú abú!

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.

Ar aon chaoi, seo é an litriú atá in úsáid ag Tomás Ó Máille ina "Urlabharaíocht", 1927. Uirrdhiughadh abdhughadh!

'Rath Dé agus bail Phádraig ar a bhfeicfidh mé ó éireoidh mé ar maidin go gcodlóidh mé san oíche'

Bhí uirrdhiughadh ag an Duinníneach freisin, sa chéad eagrán dá fhoclóir.

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.

urdhubhadh < ur (= very, entirely) + dubhadh (blackening, darkening)

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.

Ní chuireann ná sceon orm. Tá rudaí níos measa, níos "uruithe" fecithe agam i dteangacha eile!
