Seo dhaoibh scéal an-ghreannmhar as "The Voice of Connemara": [Tá snap de dhá fhogra ann ar a bhfuil sé scríbhte "Cosc ar Dumpáil! Fineáil €1900.00" agus "No Dumping £1500 Fine €1904.61] ... As can be seen from the two signs which greet visitors at Kilronan harbour, littering through English will lead to a greater fine. Locals are devided as to how it can be determined which language the offence was committed through and indeed if littering in one of our fellow E.U. tongues may incur an even greater fine. It has been suggested that the offender's reaction when caught may hold the key. A reaction of "A dheabhail!" may indicate that the offence has been committed "as Gaeilge" while the response of "oh fu#k" would mean a higher fine. |

Funny. This is a pretend article right? :) I don't want to get caught believing a pretend article again like that one about placenames being changed for tourists. :) Beir bua agus beannacht |

No, this one sounds real. The key is that it is only a few euro. If it were japery, there would be a large(r) gap to fall into |

No, I swear!!! It's a real article from a newspaper. Unfortunately I can't upload the foto, it's a printed version. (Message edited by peter on November 08, 2006) (Message edited by peter on November 08, 2006) |

€4.61 is hardly a great sum. That said, isn't there a principle in law of "de minimis non curat lex"? No doubt a sympathetic judge would apply it. €1,900 should enough to satisfy most courts, unless of course capital punishment were brought back for littering. Ach sin scéal eile. :-) |

Sorry. The posting at 7.38 pm was me. I neglected to sign in. It's a lot later that that hour here in GMT+1 land, and I have been enjoying a rather convivial evening. |

"Cosc ar Dumpáil! Fineáil €1900.00" agus "No Dumping £1500 Fine €1904.61] Even though the sign indicates a nominal conversion rate, wouldn't the actual conversion rate between the Euro and the British Pound Sterling at the time of the offense come into play? That is, it might be less expensive at times to pay the fine in Euros and it would behoove the transgressor to be aware of the conversion rate to lessen the actual value of the fine. FRC-GRMA |

Punt Éireannach atá i gceist. £1 = beagnach €1.27 airgeadas [ainmfhocal firinscneach den chéad díochlaonadh] cúrsaí airgid. |

cúrsaí airgid Bhí mé ag iarraidh "monetary systems" a rá. Tuigim gurbh é "cúrsaí airgid" "money matters." An "monetary systems é sin freisin? Go raibh maith agat. FRC-GRMA |
