A chairde,

I know this is old news but I've often wondered how Ireland convinced the EU to make Irish an official language considering the percentage of Irish citizens that speak Bearla as their first language.

I think it's absolutely fantastic that it was unanimously agreed.

How did the Irish Government manage it? And why an unanimous agreement amongst the other EU nations?

Ahern may ahve negotiated it back in 2004 when he was EU president
