Another dumb newbie question, but... when answering the telephone, how does one say "hello?" |

A Dhomhnail, I started a thread about this a few months back. I was told that a good idea was to say X anseo, (insert your name whare the X is, it really confused me when someone wrote that without clarifying). So I think then that you would say Ddomhnall anseo, like Domhnall here. When I called Aonghus agus Seosamh on their mobiles they answered with Dia dhuit so you could do that too. Beir bua agus beannacht |

In the Kerry gaeltacht I heard a young mother answer her mobile with "Abair liom" - "talk to me" |

quote:In the Kerry gaeltacht I heard a young mother answer her mobile with "Abair liom" - "talk to me" Is it possible she used "Abair liom" because she had caller ID? When I answer my cell phone and I know who it is, I answer the phone differently than saying "hello." |

Dia duit. (An bhuil se céart? Never sure where the fadas go) My Irish is terrible. When I phone my brother, or daughters, if I have to leave a message, I hate the sound of my voice in English so I just say, Dia duit, a Dolald. Míse Cáitlin. I know it's pidgin Irish but they know who it is. Slán agus sláinte. :o) |

No Séamus is James. Suaimhneas means tranquility. (It's the name on my house, so I chose it as username when I joined Daltai) |

Nach bhfuil clár teilifíse seachtainiúl ag Hugo Chávez ina bhféidir le daoine glaoch fóin a chur air darb ainm "Áló Presidente!"? |
