new research 'proves' our 'gaelic' ancestors weren't 'euro.'s' "but were in fact Egyptians, who could trace their ancestry directly back to a pharaoh's daughter and her husband, a Greek king." the old 'scota' myth was true!

If you go back far enough everyone is related so it doesn't matter so much to me, but other people might find that sort of thing to be of interest.

I just read the article...I have to be skeptical here.

I love a goood conspiracy theory as much as the next person, but the article, which I will assume paraphrases more detailed research, starts taking greater leaps as the story goes on.

The part I found the most interesting is that it starts to include rather well known, and rather controversial historical characters. (Ankhesenamun, daughter of Akhenaton and Nefertiti, and wife of Tutankhamen. He also finds that far from being a Greek king, Gaythelos was a pharaoh himself – Aye.)

However, my skeptism comes from the recent work completed by Dr. Spencer Wells and the Genographic Project where his work with the mapping of human genetics has proved the European ancestry of Ireland and the UK.

For those of us not familiar with the project, Dr. Wells has been traveling the world taking DNA from isolated groups of people in order to trace the genetic journey of the human species. His research can trace one's genetic story back several thousands of years. However, his work is with the paternal line only...so you only get one side of the family story. Basically, he can map out your father, your father's father, and his father...and so on. He can not tell you that your great great great great grandfather came from Ireland, but he can tell you that your DNA contains genetic markers that are characteristc with peoples from this area around this time.

Being the nerd that I am, I have been studying his research on Ireland and the UK. They basically tell the same story, that the majority of the people came from European ancestry on the continent, and then their lines usually travel backward in time through the Middle East and into Africa. However, the time frames for these journeys go way beyond Egypt. The ancestors of Ireland and the UK were in Africa around 75-100,000 years ago.

So I am skeptical of the Egyptian story...

However in all honesty, modern archeology has proven that there were people in Ireland and the UK long before the mass migrations occured from the continent. And we are still having trouble putting together the pieces. We know that certain ancient cultures made contact with the isles, so..it is possible that groups from these areas settled...

I feel it is a rather bold claim...that seems to mirror in some part, the Da Vinci Code. Were colorful stories are being woven into an interesting conspiracy...

I think the apostrophes make it clear...
