"the hero Tadhg mac Cein, whom Mac an Bhaird 1980 has
shown to be specifically associated with badgers"

from: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/cybalist/message/45587

How much comparitive work has been done to see how certain motifs play out over Europe, and so may have stable meaning, and so, perhaps, would allow for shedding some light on the gaelic past.

One exampel that comes to mind is the Gundestrup cauldron which shows a figure (possibly a shaman or druid) cross-legged with (supposedly) hands displaying mudras (hand positions found in Hindu meditation and art). See Plate A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundestrup_cauldron The link would be some common Indo-european religious elements

Interesting that...must look into it

Reminds me that as a teenager I read 'Hamlet's Mill', a roving account of how cosmology was/is embedded in mythology. Held to be part crank, part genius, the book w as as I recall a bit pot pourri, but good in its own way.. and now from $10 on Amazon
