I am a beginner and have recently bought a phrase book that has me perplexed. While my Foclóir Póca has one pronunciation for slender "s" the phrase book seems to provide another pronunication for certain words that seem to require the slender "s" sound of sh. i.e.
Scread, FP: s'k'rad Phrase book: scread.
Scéal FP s'k'e:l Phrase book: skeyl
Sciob FP: s'k'ib Phrase book, skib
Speal also has no "sh" sound I notice in FP and phrase book, etc etc
I assume FP is right. Is the phrase book wrong or are their rules or dialects that alter the slender "s" (sh)in certain words to the standard "S"? Hope I am making sense. Any help greatly appreciated.
