I was shocked to be looking at Ireland on Google Earth and see all the place names in Irish with the English in parentheses! Yet when you zoom in closer it changes to Irish in parentheses. I was pleasantly shocked; I would have thought with how few seem to know about the language (people regularly deny its existence to me) that they wouldn't even have been included in a program like this. Are they working on developing Google Earth in any other languages? Coimhéad fearg fhear na foighde.

Its one for the footnotes, gan dabht. Google maps uses offical post codes and other designations. Perhaps the Earth project took a similar methodology; or, having offices in Dublin, they just did it i nGaeilge for the craic |
