I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me with this...

I was listening to Radió Na Gaeltacht's "Nead Na Fuiseoige" and I was blown away when Gráinne Ní Dhomhnaill, who I am assuming is the lady in the picture, started speaking Irish. The whole time she was speaking I kept thinking to myself, that's how I want the Irish to sound when it comes out of my mouth...and then a man came on and also started speaking in a similar fashion.

Does anyone know anything about them? I am trying to place their Irish...does anyone know where they are from?

The program information says Galway, and there was a definite western feel to it...but does anyone know where in Galway that Irish might be coming from?

Chuala mé an nuacht á léamh ag Máire De Bhailís agus Pádraig O Flaithearta ( I’m not sure how he spells Pádraig) atá ar an bhfear leis an nguth álainn a chuala mé. Níor chuala mé Gráinne Ní Dhomhnaill áfach. Was it the news you heard her reading? When I tuned in, it was Máire De Bhailís I heard. ‘Definitely Connemara Irish. I knew a Máire De Bhailís who worked once with Coláiste Cholumba ar an gCeathrú Rua (Carraroe). She was very kind to me there. I don’t know if it’s the same woman. Both Pádraig and Máire had Connemara Irish. Later there was another news presenter with Donegal Irish. When did you listen to it? Do you remember the day? I could try to find that program.

I agree though. Connemara Irish is álainn amach is amach ☺,

Caitríona

I went to:

http://www.rte.ie/rnag/neadnafuiseoige.html

Which is the link to the "Nead Na Fuiseoige" page and then I clicked on the Monday program...I really don't know much more than that. However, I just finished listening to the Tuesday program and I heard the same people speaking...so I am assuming that they are the regular presenters.

From the sounds of the program, the man is the lead presenter who transitions the music...it is a music program...and then the women speak in between the music. So it could very well be that they are giving news updates and information...

Although it was very quick...I do believe I heard the name "Gráinne," but I could not follow as to if they were just talking about her, or if it was an introduction...

Yep, I listened to it again and it was Pádraig was the main presenter, Máire de Bhailís read the main news stories at the beginning and in the middle, and Gearóidín Nic an Iomaire read the sports news at the end. The three of them have Connemara Irish.

Thanks a chara, 'cos it got me listening to Raidio na Gaeltachta again.

Cuireann guth séimh Ghráinne tús maith leis an lá dom gach lá, agus mé ar an mbealach ar obair. Mór an trua go bhfuil an clar le bogadh ar aghaidh leathuair (ce gur maith ann an Adhmhaidin níos faide).

Gráinne an gnáth laithreoir don clár, ach bíonn sí as láthair sách minic. Clár de chuid casla atá ann, ach is minic guthanna ó na gaeltachtaí eile ag cuir an nuacht nó an mhír spóirt i láthair.
