Hi,
I am searching for 2 Donegal dialect books, both published by the Queen's University based 'Institute of Irish Studies'. They dont seem to answer their phones, so I thought I ask here.

They are out of print, now.

Names:
'Irish of Tory Island', Hamilton, JN

'Grammar of Ros Goill', Lucas, LW

Thanks, even if just a bit of info!

I wouldn't know where to find them for sale... but if there's something specific you need looked up or copied from them, I can help. We have both of them in the library here.

I don't know how up-to-date this info is, but here's a link that lists 'Grammar of Ros Goill' for sale:

Abigail,
thanks for the offer, but as I use books for referencing purposes, I would need the whole book. I am under the impression the Tory book is on the phonetics, so I would definitly need it all.

Mac Léinn,
that is an old un-updated site. I called Conradh na G about it (its their books as once sold thru it). Thanks for the URL anyway

A Bharney,

I think these books are out of sale. I saw them in Coleraine University's library, and the one about Tory is in Derrybeg library, in Gweedore parish. You could borrow them and make photocopies, maybe.

Maybe you could find second hand copies on some online bookshop, like abebooks.com. I've found many old copies of old dictionaries on that website, I'm almost sure it's possible to get what you want there.

Tír Chonaill abú!

A [lˠ]ughaidh,
none of the second hand book stores had them; however Colraine has. I checked their library cathalogue -all the books and more are there.

I called them to ask could I enter and photocopy -they said yes! So next week I am going up there to do that.

Cheers!

a Lughaidh,
just back from Colraine. The library is great, just that one has to provide a passport for the real deal books -I did show it to get O Quiggins 'A Dialect of Donegal'.

Got a decent selection (Sean-chaint Theillin, Ros Goill, Achill, and other sound training books).

I will get the older grammar books in onoher trip

Liked the Downhill Hostel and Temple!
