I did discover a little mix-up with "beginning" and "ending" in this section on guessing the gender of nouns:

Ainmfhocail dar críoch consan

Nouns beginning with consonants

Is féidir inscne ainmfhocal a thosaíonn ar chonsan a thomhas go réasúnta cruinn ach leaid a bhaint as siolla deireanach an fhocail.

The gender of nouns that end with a consonant can be guessed with reasonable accuracy from the word's final syllable.
