I have a friend who would like the following phrase in Irish
"The more you know, The less you know"
I have been unable to find a phrase similar to it & was wondering if anyone could translate it for me, or is there an old Irish saying that would be a close comparison,

This calls for word play on eolas, fios, etc. How about something like "dá mhéad eolas, is ea is lú fios"? This would mean "the more information, the less wisdom", roughly.
It sounds exactly like the type of situation Irish should have a seanfhocal for, but if it has one, I've never heard it.

Reminds me a line from Song 46 of the Tao Teh Ching:
qi chu mi yuan,
qi zhi mi shao
The further you go,
The less you know.
One translator, Stephen Mitchell, took the liberty of rephrasing this as: "The more you know, the less you understand".
Cé atá sásta Gaeilge a chur ar an líne thuas?
Go raibh [do rogha meafar] leat!

Hmmm. Perhaps this leans a little toward "ignorance is bliss". |
