Lots of reading online here in Irish for people of different tastes; from film buffs to political animals, to the culture vultures, to the serious student. Enjoy. 1. http://www.spd.dcu.ie/main/news/SraithScannanGaeilge2006.shtml - about films in Irish. 2. http://gaelicstarover.blogspot.com/2006/05/puipad-phuipid-ar-sl-go-hireann.html - a political blog. 3. http://www.irishabroad.com/Culture/gaeilge/SiulachScealach030506.asp - about the festival of Bealtaine. 4. http://www.irishcultureandcustoms.com/3Focloir/PostMail.html - a lesson on mailing and shipping. |

True and well spotted. The biggest offence is the 'th'. There is no ‘th’ sound like an English ‘th’ sound in Irish. So 'Tá fáilte romhat' Thaw foil-cheh roath would be better written as Taw fawil-cheh roat. In the example of 'Cad is ainm duit?' Codh is anam gwitch, the ‘Codh’ would be better written as 'Cod' etc. So eliminate the extra h letters are t and d and it gets closer to the real sounds. They are, of course approximations of sound and sounds vary from dialect to dialect but it’s a start. |
