A Chairde,

has anyone heard of this singer (apparently sean-nós) before?

I came across his CD "The Seven Steps to Mercy - Seacht gCoiscéim na Trocaire" in my local library. It's quite good and everything is in Irish - I can only recomment it!
But unfortunately, there are no lyrics.

So, does someone know of a link or has the lyrics at hand?

Thanks in advance.

Le meas,
Stefan

His voice is just wonderful, isn't it? I've recently just discovered his solo sean-nós work. His latest album is 'Invisible Fields' which I feel is even better than 'Seacht', partly because it uses more traditional instrumentation rather than the synthesizer background that seems to be on every song on 'Seacht'.

Iarla is on Real World Records, and his web site is here:

http://realworldrecords.com/iarla/

I highly recommend downloading "The Humming of the Bees (Aoibhinn Cronán)" from that web site, which is far superior to the version on 'Seacht' (again, the 'Seacht' version is way too synthesizer heavy).

In case you weren't aware, Iarla is the lead singer of Afro Celt Sound System, also on Real World Records:

Oh, and there's an Afro Celts fan site at:

http://afrocelts.org/

And Iarla had registered

http://iarla.com/
http://invisiblefields.com/

but there's nothing currently at either site. :-(

Anyone know if Iarla and/or Afro Celts are coming to the USA for a concert any time soon?

Amazing guy. You should listen to his singing on Afrocelt's 'Release' album. (as Gaeilge freisin)

Do a search on http://www.pandora.com/

Thanks, Dearg for the links!

Unfortunately, on the official webside the lyrics aren't listed as well.

"I Could Read The Sky"? What a coincidence - I remember having this CD in my hands long before I became interested in the Irish language and was just fascinated by the cover. Can anyone tell me something about this soundtrack(?)?

Thank you, Ceolmhar as well.

Le meas,
Stefan

Ná habair é, a Sgm! Glad I could help.

"I could read the sky" is the album I bought most recently. Iarla's cover of a sean-nós song (something about laying over a tomb) is fantastic!

I haven't listened to the rest of the album enough to come to any firm conclusions as to whether I like it or not. I haven't read the book, but am thinking about it now.
