Any language requires hard work, period. Learning Irish is usually thought to be the most thorough and beneficial text out there I believe, and it comes with audio tapes. Some will find Irish easier than others. In my experience it's much more difficult than Spanish, but loads easier than other languages I've had to deal with.

Shanem48:

It's a terribly difficult language to learn. But, once you start, you get hooked and can't seem to walk away!!

The best way to learn would be to go to Ireland and live/work in a gaeltacht. This is much harder than it sounds, so the best thing you can do is find a local teacher. Unless you live in New York, New Jersey, Chicago or some other large city with an diverse and eclectic population, you probably won't be able to find one, though. So, the next option is to find a "teach yourself" resource, plunge in and ask tons of questions.

Stay in touch with the people on this site and go to an immersion weekend or week if at all possible. This site seems to strike the balance between discussion and instruction.

my 2 cents worth.
