TG4 Web TV is now FREE at http://www.tg4.ie/Webt/webt.htm

There's plenty to watch and hear as Gaeilge, including Ros na Rún. Enjoy!

You'll need a broadband connection to access TG4. Also, you'll need to fiddle around with the settings and bandwith options to get it to work on your computer.

Alas, I don't have broad band so I can't check it out. It really does sound GREAT though!

It costs $5.00 a month for my dial-up connection compared to about $35.00 a month for broad band - so it would definitely cost alot more to change to broad band compared to what I am paying now.

Does anyone know of any DVDs (in Irish) for sale?

Sounds like at least you have "internet radio." :)

But that's a bummer about the cost of broad band. Maybe you can check the Web TV out at a library, etc. until the costs of broadband comes down.

It's a live stream. There are some archive (Cartlann) programmes.

Can anyone tell me how exactly to watch the live stream, please? I've been able to watch archived programs no problem, but when I click on the "beo ar an aer" tab, I just get a schedule of the week's programs. I've tried clicking randomly all over the schedule page, but the live stream isn't popping up.

This is excellent news for people living abroad. Perhaps TG4 weren't doing too well on the subscription based service.

Róman - I just downloaded 'WM Recorder 10'. Now I can record those lovely aimsir láithreacht girls.

Julia - it's probably a problem with your ríomhaire. Try downloading the latest Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.

Ná dearmad! Dialup and broadband users can listen to:

Raidió na Life ag: http://azul.streamguys.com/rnl106
RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta ag: http://www.rte.ie/smiltest/rnag_new.smil

Real Player required: http://www.download-zone-free.com/realplayer/

I do listen to RTE often. When I turn on RnG I understand lots of "agus"s and snippets that sort of sound like words I've heard, might know, or have seen written by the all of you and think are maybe pronounced like what I just heard. I'll keep trying. I don't have Broadband so I'll just have to stick with what I have.

I've got highspeed broadband and RealPlayer, but canæt listen to any of those things, Ceolmhar... The RTE is dead silent even though I turned the volume up to max and Raidió na Life sounded more like Russian polka.

Hmm, thanks for the suggestions Aonghus and Ceolmhar, but still no luck... I can watch the archives just fine, I've been able to stream broadcasts from other websites so I don't think it's a problem with my computer, and I checked the schedule, so there should've been programming on when I went to the site.

Am I supposed to click on something to start the live stream? Or should it just automatically start streaming when I click on the "web tv" button (http://www.tg4.ie/Webt/webt.htm)? All I get is the schedule.

I'd appreciate any ideas...I'm enjoying watching Ros na Rún, and I can actually follow all of the conversation in the kiddie shows, but I'd love to be able to watch live, too.

I'm so glad TG4 are doing this for free!

Julia,

Yeah, I find the Irish cartoons very easy to follow. There is also a cartoon for babies which teaches kids a few Spanish words through Irish - a great idea IMO.

I have a lot of experience with computers and I do know that there's something dodgy about the TG4 Beo stream. Unfortuantaly, there are hundreds of different 'Codecs' (the type of internet transmission) and some computers refuse to play them.

TG4 is broadcasted via Windows Media, NOT Real Player. All I can suggest is that you download the latest Windows Media Player 11 and go to http://tg4.tv/ and try again.

There is an 'options' button on the TG4 stream. Try changing the 4 different options.

Lastly, might I suggest you download a different web browser, Mozilla Firefox, which many of us use.

http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-&os=win&lan g=ga-IE

Can't think of anything other than that. I've had codec problems before and the only solution was to wipe and reinstall Windows XP!

hahah, Almo as Gaeilge!

Cheers, Ceolmhar, I'll start with updating Windows Media and see how it goes...Might try Firefox, too. I can't try changing the options, as there aren't any to change (I know what you're talking about, I can see them when I cilck on the archived programs, but all I get when I click on live is the schedule).

The help is much appreciated. :)

Julia,

Click on the help button, bottom right hand side of the schedule page. Then click "Can I watch all TG4 programmes live on the Internet?". It says that not all programmes are available due to broadcast restrictions.

Also, if you look at the schedule, there are gaps in it. Presumably the times of the gaps are when the programmes are not available on the net.

Try live streaming again during the time it shows a program is available (adjust for your local time).

A chairde,

Do bhí mo cheist fén abairt sa "Ros na Rún". Tá a fhios agam go bhfuil mórán abairtí ann conas a deirtear "See you later". Credim go deirtear "Feicfidh mé thú níos déanaí" sa dhráma, ach nílim ró-shiúralta.

Ámhar mór oraibh
