quote:I did correlate English and Irish as the official languages of America and Ireland
That is such an erroneous correlation that I hardly know where to begin disproving it!
First of all, the English language is not indigenous to North America. For example, here in New Mexico, Spanish has been spoken for centuries before any English speakers ever showed up. The indigenous languages have been here alot longer.
There is no real need to make English the “official” language of the United States. It is just another example of election year grandstanding by our corrupt politicians who hope to garner votes from people (like yourself?) who are naive enough to fall for it.
English is already, in fact, the de facto “official” language so why is there a need for legislation? Why not make it “official” for people in the U.S. to shake hands with their right hand?
Everyone on this site would do well to remember that Ireland was once an extremely impoverished, colonized land where millions of people were forced to emigrate - many of them came to the United States. In the U.S., they suffered greatly from discrimination at the hands of anti-immigrant employers, politicians, landlords, etc.
Please try to refrain from using the pretense of being a learner of Irish as an excuse for posting the worst kind of oppressive, anti-immigrant bashing on this forum.
