It is. Maith thú!
quote:...just wondering where the word could have originated from
"Airiúi" is a typo for "airiú" which is a variant of "arú", which is really just a noise with emotional content, rather like "oh!" or "wow!" or "ack!"
[NB: it's not to be confused with another word also spelled "arú", used in "arú aréir", "arú inné", etc.] Other similar words in Irish are "oró", "ababú", and "ochón".
Dála an scéil, tá amhrán eile ann, "The Quiet Land of Erin", a bhfuil curfá leis a scríobhtar i ndóigheanna éagsúla:
Agus och, och Éire lig is o, Éire lionn dubh is o!
Agus och och Éire lig is ó! Ar mo lon dubh is ó! An féidir nach bhfuil san fhocal "Éire" anseo ach leagan malartach de "airiú / arú"?
