Hello! I'm a MA Eng Lit student finishing up my dissertation and as my faculty advisor is Irish, I would really like to add some Irish Gaelic flair to my acknowledgement page. I know how difficult it can be to get the correct idiomatic phrases in translation, but I would like to say something polite, but not too formal. (I'm not sure if Irish Gaelic has honorifics as there are in Japanese....) I would like to say something along the lines of: 'I would like to thank Dr. so-in-so for the time and effort she put into helping me along the way. Her insight was extremely valuable and I have learnt much from her feedback.' Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you in advance! |

Ba mhór agam a léirstean eolais agus is móide m’eolas féin as a bheith faoina stiúir. Be sure to insert her name or she'll have a good laugh at your expense. It's nice of you to think of doing this for her. Hope her Irish is good but I imagine you've given thought to the matter. |

Ah, thank you so much! =) Yes, she's studied Irish at NUI. I'll remember to put her name in ;) (How embarrassing would that be!) I enjoy studying languages and hope to one day learn Irish as well. It's nice to be able to speak to people in their native tongue. Thanks again! |
