Here's a fun learning site for people who prefer to stay away from linguistic notation and with lots and lots of lessons. Thanks to another student for this one. http://www.irishpage.com/irishpeople/ |

This is great. It helps learning a lot of basic stuff ... I can't believe I didnt'even know colours! This will really help my vocabulary for the Deireadh Seachtaine! Rinne Máire gáire gan náire ag an fhaire i nDoire anuraidh. D'ith damh dubh ubh amh ar neamh.

quote:Have you guys tried Seans eile You are just pouring salt over my wounds :(( This program has been a source of stress and confusion for me. I have downloaded-cum-installed it at least thrice in order to discover that I can't make it run. I just press icon and nothing happens. Had anyone similar experience? |

quote:http://www.irishpage.com/irishpeople/ Beware that Irish presented on that site is neither caighdeán nor Gaelainn na Mumhan - something inbetween. Some kind of munsteresque caighdeán, or caighdeánesque Munster - really weird staff |

mar a dúirt an té a dúirt = as the one who said it said This little formula is used to acknowledge that something is a quotation or a well-worn phrase, but the original author is unknown. Years ago I saw "le futur est au métissage" attributed to Charles de Gaulle, but I haven't been able to substantiate that. |

Ceart go leor, it means I understood correctly, but it didn't make any sense to me. Thanks for explanation. |

Thanks Caitriona! The lessons on the "Irish People" page are perfect for someone like me, who happens to live where there are no Irish speakers at all (none that I know of, at least). They also put out a pretty good newspaper. I'm sure that Róman is right about it not being Real Munster Irish, though - Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to continue studying Irish in Munster dialect? So far, I have finished the Pimsleur course and I just signed up with "Gaeltalk" last week. I also ordered a copy of the old "Teach Yourself Irish" book so that ought to keep me going for a while! Any suggestions about anything else that I can do, would be greatly appreciated and, of course, would create lots of good karma for yourself :) Slán |
