Why:

Louise, who suffered a stroke while working on Long Island, NY was in a coma for two weeks. She is now in rehabilitation and has a long road ahead of her toward recovery. Any help that can be given to defray the heavy cost of rehabilitation will be greatly appreciated by Louise and her family.

Please join us at Rory Dolan’s and open your hearts and wallets to come to the assistance of this young woman. John Duddy, the boxer from Derry, will be there supporting Louise and greeting those attending.

Internet scams are run quite regularly, and so I'd advise people to verify the legitimacy of this fundraiser prior to donating any funds.

I did a google search on Astoria Bank and found no reference to there being a branch at Covert Avenue.

Perhaps the original poster could clarify?

I found the Covert Avenue address in a NY phone book. Astoria Federal Bank has many branches in NY.

This is not a scam although I know many are out there. If the check is made out to the KofC Louise Fund, I don't see how someone could manage to scam you.

However, that's because I'm not working with the mind of a scammer.
