A friend taught me this saying (which has lately been a very cathartic personal mantra!). She learned it from her Gaeilgeoir mother, but she learned it from her as Béarla. Has anyone heard this saying before? (It's used in contexts like: Got turned down for that job you wanted? May all of the badness go with it.) I have a strong suspicion it was originally in Irish, because of both its source and its phrasing, but I haven't been able to find any information. Has anyone heard this before? Does anyone know it as Gaeilge (or have a suggestion how you would translate it)? FRC - Fáilte Roimh Cheartúcháin

Bhí agus tá sé sa Ghaeilg ceart go leor a Julia: (go dté) Ár dtubaiste léi / leis ; Ár gcuid den mhí-ádh léi / leis ; Ár gcuid de mhí-ádh na bliana léi / leis ; The first is in Ó Dónaill and is something like one in Seanfhocal Uladh (níl an leabhar sin liom faoi láthair) and others or their like can be heard anois is arís. |

With the amount of plates and glasses that my baby sister may have broken in her youth, we had plenty of good about the house! |

A Sheosaimh, grma! I *love* the saying and am happy to be able to say it as Gaeilge! A Kevin, hilarious. :) perhaps I can find a way to use it regarding all of the dents I've put in my parents' car... FRC - Fáilte Roimh Cheartúcháin
