I don't know if the name was derived from an Irish Language name as an anglicisation, so I can't give you its Irish Language original form. However, if you want to make one up, the Irish for "Woodford" is "Áth na Coille"... so maybe you make it: D'Áth na gCarraigeacha Fáilte Roimh Cheartúcháin Correct me for the love of God... I'm a perfectionist! : )

The closest name I find is Rochefort which is given as de Rosfort.Someone with McLysaght's book can possibly help with this. Fear na mbróg's versions are more suitable for place names than family names. |

From MacLysaght: Rochford - "I quote a note received from Mr. K. Nichols: 'An Anglo Norman name widespread in the middle ages but afterwards principally in Meath and Kilkenny. A branch of the Meath family joined the Cromwellian cause and are commemorated by the village of Rochfordbridge. The Rochfords in Co. Cork were in fact de Ridlesfords: the adoption of the name Rochford arose from mistaken reconstruction of a Gaelic form'. There were several of these, vry dissimilar in the annals, etc. e.g. Ratasbhard, Risibard. See Rougheen. (O)Roughneen, Raghtneen - (Ó Reachtnín) A Mayo name, where Rochtford has sometimes been used for it. Ronayne is sometimes used as a synonym of Roughneen. See Raghteen. (O)Raghteen - (Ó Raichtín) Formerly used for Raftery in Co. Galway; to be distinguuished from Raghtneen but presumeably of the same origin."
