Cén chaoi a ndéarfaí "floating down the mighty rivers of British Columbia" as Gaeilge?

>>Cén chaoi a ndéarfaí "floating down the mighty rivers of British Columbia" as Gaeilge?

"Ag scaoileadh maidí le sruth ar mór-aibhneacha BC."

'Sé sin mo thomhais, ach ná glac leis gan comhairle a fháil ó daoine eile anseo.

"Ag scaoileadh maidí le sruth ar mór-aibhneacha BC."

Ach nach bhfuil an bhádóireacht i gceist leis sin? Bhí mé ag smaoineamh ar chearchaillí.

Céard faoi "ag snámh síos na n-aibhneacha forthréan Cholóim Bhriotanach."?

An bhfuil sé sin i gceart?

Tá an ceart agat, a Cheltoid; ciallaíonn ag snámh 'floating' chomh maith le 'swimming'. Is meafar é 'ag scaoileadh maidí le sruth'. This latter phrase is a metaphor meaning 'letting things drift or slide'. I just thought it was more colourful but you are more literally corect to use 'ag snámh'. One other thing, I would say 'ag snámh anuas' rather than 'ag snámh síos'.

I would prefer "ar snámh". It implies (to my mind) a more passive state than "ag snámh", which comes over to me as swimming - a definite activity.

Hope this helps.

"ag snámh síos na n-aibhneacha forthréan Cholóim Bhriotanach."?

Bhí mé ag ceapadh go mba cheart an gineadach a bheith i ndiaidh an fhocail "síos", ach ní shílim go raibh sé sin i gceart.

Céard faoi seo:

"ar snámh síos na haibhneacha forthréana Cholóim Bhriotanach."?

An bhfuil sé sin níos ceirte?

quote:

"ar snámh síos na haibhneacha forthréana Cholóim Bhriotanach."?

Ní mór an t-alt "na" a fhágáil amach:

Ar snámh síos aibhneacha Bhritish Columbia

Samplaí eile:

cathracha Mheiriceá, ní na cathracha Mheiriceá
teangacha na hÉireann, ní na teangacha na hÉireann

NB: British Columbia = An Cholóim Bhriotanach
Mar sin: aibhneacha na Colóime Briotanaí

Níl mé céad faoin gcéad sásta le "ar snámh síos", ach níl moladh eile agam anois. "Ag reaftáil síos" a déarfainn, is dócha!

Go raibh míle maith agat, a Dhennis.

Céard faoi:

"the smell of fresh-cut timber, the crash of mighty trees"?

"boladh an adhmaid nua-gheartha, pléasc na gcrann ollmhor"?
