Inspired by Seosamh Mac Muirí's request that we learners post in Irish more often, I thought I would start a thread titled "What are you doing for St. Patrick's Day?" The closest I can come is "Cad e a dhéanann tú ar Lá Fhéile Pádraig?" I'd appreciate help in writing this correctly.

Another question, would a different preposition be used to say "on St. Patrick's day" versus "for St. Patrick's day?"

So...... what are YOU (tusa) doing for St. Patrick's Day? Feel free to describe your plans for that day in whatever Irish (and English when needed) you have.

Le meas,

Gobán

"Cad a bheidh ar siúl agat ar Lá Fhéile Pádraig?" is what I'd say.

"ar siúl" sort of translates as "on", e.g.:

The television is on = Tá an teilifís ar siúl

Cad a bheidh ar siúl agat = What will you have on? = What will you be up to = What will you be doing?

--

Níl a fhios agam go fóill cad a dhéanfaidh mé; b'fhéidir go rachaidh mé go dtí an pharáid i lár na cathrach.

I don't know yet what I'll do; maybe I'll go to the parade in the city centre.

Ta se mo la ban ar na bliain. (sorry, no fadas) It's my favorite day of the year. Don't know how correct the Irish was but I wanted to try. Still figuring out what I'll do, but it will probably consist of going as many places as I can and watching dancers and musicians and curling my hair (which is hard because it is very straight) and things of that sort.

Beir bua agus beannacht.

"Is é an lá é is fearr liom na bliana" is how I would say "it's my favourite day of the year" but, of course, I could be wrong ;)
