I'm an American Cub Scout den leader and have been told that Bi Ulaimh means a combination of Be Prepared (Boy Scout motto) and Do Your Best (Cub Scout motto).

Were any of you in scouting and encountered this phrase?

I ask this as I wanted to set a phrase properly; "...as we strive to do our best . Would you be so kind to include a phonetic translation too?

I belive Bi Ulaimh can be pronounced as Bee Oo-la-emm.

Thanks in-advance.

Sincerely,
Scott

Dia duit Scott.

The phrase in Irish is 'Bí ullamh!'

Meaning: Be prepared.

(You may like to pronounce it 'bee ulav')

If you want a phrase in Irish it may be best to post the entire phrase to the board here and I'm sure many will help you out with it.

Slán go fóill.

If you're speaking to more than one scout it would be:

"Bígí ullamh!"

Here's a stanza from a very old poem of advice for a warrior that makes a similar point -- be vigilant at all times:

Déan do dhícheall - do your (sing) best. Jane dough eekell is fairly close pronunciation
