I bhfianaise a fheabhas is a d’éirigh le hiarrachtaí le cumainn Na Gaeil Óga a bhunú i nGaillimh agus i gCorcaigh le gairid agus leis an gComhdháil Óige a eagraíodh i gColáiste na Tríonóide i mBaile Átha Cliath le déanaí, tá Na Gaeil Óga chun díriú ar an Tuaisceart anois. Beidh ionadaithe leis Na Gaeil Óga ag taisteal timpeall scoileanna i mBéal Feirste a bhfuil spéis sa Ghaeilge acu chun daoine óga na cathrach a spreagadh i dtreo na Gaeilge.

Féachann daoine sa deisceart ar Ghaeilgeoirí an Tuaiscirt mar ghníomhairí teanga a rinne tréan oibre chun an Ghaeilge a athbheochan ansin ó bhunú na chéad ghaelscoile sa Tuaisceart siar in 1971. Tá sé le feiceáil ar fhás na Gaelscolaíochta go bhfuil an t-uafás daoine óga ann ar spéis leo an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ina gceantair féin, agus ar bhonn náisiúnta chomh maith. Táimid ag iarraidh múnla a thabhairt don fhuinneamh óg seo agus Gaeilgeoirí óga, as gach cúlra ó thaobh cine agus creidimh araon, a eagrú le gluaiseacht síochánta, eagraithe, aontaithe a chruthú.

Táimid ag iarraidh taispeáint do dhaoine óga gur féidir leo dul i bhfeidhm ar a gceantair féin agus ar an stát trí chéile ach gníomhú chuige sin le chéile. Léiríodh mí-shásamh ar na mallaibh faoi dhuine óg a phéinteáil mana faoin dá-theangachas ar shólann - b’fhearr linne an fuinneamh agus féinmhuiníneachas a léirigh an duine óg sin a úsáid chun feachtas dá-theangach a chur ar siúl i mBéal Feirste, nó níos fearr arís, chun tacú leis an bhfeachtas ar son Acht na Gaeilge a bheidh á sheoladh Dé Céadaoin. Beidh Na Gaeil Óga ag tacú leis an bhFeachtas seo ar bhonn náisiúnta ar an gcaoi chéanna is a thacaigh muid leis an bhfeachtas ar son Acht Teanga agus STÁDAS roimhe seo.

Smaoinigh an cumhacht stocaireachta a bheadh ag na mílte Gaeilgeoirí óga a bheadh eagraithe go straitéiseach dá mbeidís ábalta feidhmiú láithreach i gcoinne ionsaí ar an dteanga, nó níos fearr arís, dá mbeidís in ann feidhmiú go dearfach i bhfeachtas chun cearta teanga Gaeilgeoirí a chinntiú agus a shlánú.

Dar le hArdrúnaí Chonradh na Gaeilge, Julian de Spáinn, is ionann Na Gaeil Óga agus “Duracell na Gaeilge”. Tá fuinneamh, scileanna agus acmhainní teicneolaíochta, cumarsáide agus feachtasaíochta againn nach raibh ar fáil do Ghaeilgeoirí óga riamh roimhe seo.

Dar le Ciarán Mac Fhearghusa, Cathaoirleach Na Gaeil Óga, go bhfuil “an Ghaeilge ag éirí níos gnéasúla, spéisiúla agus spraoiúla toisc an borradh atá ag teacht ar shaol sóisialta phobal na Gaeilge. Is gá tógáil air seo trí daoine óga a chur ar an eolas mar gheall ar a gcearta teanga agus ar an óg-ghluaiseacht Ghaeilge, chun todhchaí na teanga a shlánú i measc an chéad ghlúin eile.”

Is óg-eagraíocht Na Gaeil Óga atá neamhspleách go polaitiúil, a fheidhmíonn chun nasc gníomhaíochta agus sóisialta a chruthú idir grúpaí óige a bhfuil spéis sa Ghaeilge acu.

Más spéis leat páirt a ghlacadh in obair Na Gaeil Óga i gCorcaigh, nó in aon áit eile sa tír, ní gá ach dul i dteagmháil leis Na Gaeil Óga ag +353 85 739 5580 nó ag .

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Publication 05 Febuary, 2006

Na Gaeil Óga: Growing From Strength to Strength

Following from the success of two newly-founded branches of Na Gaeil Óga in the past fortnight, in Galway and Cork, respectively, and a Youth Conference organised by the already established Dublin branch in Trinity College Dublin recently, Na Gaeil Óga have now set their sights on making its organisation a truly all-Ireland project. They will begin a new recruitment roadshow with its first stop being Belfast this Tuesday.

Described as the “Duracell of the Irish language” by Conradh na Gaeilge’s General Secretary, Julian de Spáinn, at their recent Youth Conference in Dublin, representatives from Na Gaeil Óga will travel to schools and colleges throughout Belfast, with an interest in the Irish language, in an attempt to motivate young people into becoming Irish language activists.

According to Ciarán Mac Fhearghusa, Chairperson of Na Gaeil Óga,

“People in the south of Ireland are impressed by the energy and the dedication of Irish language activists in the north and their efforts revive the Irish language in at times, a hostile environment, in terms of the Irish language. Since the first Gaelscoil was set-up in the north in 1971, and with the tremendous growth in the Irish language medium sector, we believe that there are now a growing number of potential young Irish language activists in the north. We hope that Na Gaeil Óga will give them the opportunity and the motivation in becoming not only Irish speakers but Irish language activists in their local areas and on a national scale. We hope that through Na Gaeil Óga young Irish speakers’ creativity and energy can be organised in a positive, united and strategic way.

“We want to show young people that if organised, they can have an influence on their own communities and on the state. Last year a young person expressed his/her frustration at the lack of bi-lingual signage at a newly refurbished swimming centre, we would like to use the energy and motivation that that young person showed in a positive way by getting local young people to organise bi-lingual signage campaigns or better still to support the campaign for an Irish Language Act that would guarantee Irish speakers their rights. Na Gaeil Óga nationally, will be supporting this campaign in the same way we supported the campaigns for the Language Act in the south and STÁDAS.

“Imagine the lobbying power that thousands of young Irish language speakers would have if they were organised, and able to act immediately against an attack on the rights of Irish speakers or the status of the language. On a more positive note think what could be achieved if these same young people campaigned to guarantee and safeguard the rights Irish language speakers. This is what we hope to achieve.

Na Gaeil Óga is a politically independent youth organisation, that works to develop activist based and social links with youth groups and young people with an interest in the Irish language.

Lobbying....

there are groups of lunitics in this state (reform movement etc) who number in the handful and they make noise may out of proportion to their size.

Since the gov responds to lobbbies, a real Gaeilic lobby might make some progress

Eh less of it.
Déanann Seán, Ciarán agus chuile duine eile go leor ar son na teanga.
Tá aithne maith agam orthu

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river
