Does the variation in orthography across Dineen and O'Donaill echo the living dialects, or is it rooted in other principles? If it is related to dialect, can you ascertain which one by the variations?
For instance the word béadán is also be spelled biodán and biaideán (Dineen, p. 85) and béideán (O Donaill, p. 102).

Dineen is pre spelling reform, Ó Donaill post. I think that is the biggest difference. Also, Dineen in 1904 had a larger range of dialects to draw from. |

Yes, the different spellings to be found in Dinneen are based on dialects, as far as I know.
