just wondering about a phrase, "if he cannot do so..." Something like, "if he cannot do so, his father may help."

how would that be rendered in Irish?

Mura bhfuil sé in ann X a dhéanamh

X refering to the word 'so' if ya catch my drift..

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

wait, so X would be whatever so referred to?

mura bhfuil sé in ann ceapann sé a chomharba...

if he cannot name his successor [the president may] (which is actually what I need to say, the whole thing.)

would it be easier to phrase it "if he is unable to appoint his successor, the president may appoint someone"?

perhaps,
mura bhfuil sé ábalta a chomharba a ceapann, féadfaidh an uachtarán a ceapann duine

would that work?

Muna bhfuil sé in ann a chomharba a cheapadh, is féidir leis an Uachtarán duine a cheapadh.
