Does anyone know of summer Irish courses in Ireland that are set up to handle families? I've looked at a number of web sites but many seem to be oriented to either adults or children, but not both. http://www.dailuladh.com/ mentions family courses, but I haven't heard back from them after inquiring about 2006.

I'm hoping to be at about intermediate level in Irish by summer; my wife would be interested in music, though not language; our 8-year old daughter loves Irish dance and music, and says she wishes she knew the language too.

We'd appreciate any thoughts on where we might look!

I remember courses at Áras Mháirtín Uí Cadhain in Carraroe for adults and around the corner from their place ( 2 minute walk) was the kids course at Coláiste Cholumba in Carraroe. I think they are still going strong. They're run by different people but if you ask the people at Coláiste Cholumba, they'll probably give you info. about the adult course. That'll probably work well.
I had a great time on the Aran Islands with my family but I wasn't on a course there. The kids were and we were in a b&b. We got to speak to the locals and go to ceilis etc. Séan O Flatharta was in charge of the course on Inis Mór and he and his wife Póilín were really kind and helpful. We were spoiled.
Look up the Irish names of the schools above and you should find them.
Good luck and best wished to your dancer with her 123s and 7s and jigs and reels.

You can get their info at

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river
