Dia duit?

I'm 15yrs old and sitting my junior Cert this summer. I have a very big interest in the Irish language and hope someday, to be able to speak it fluently. I play irish music and am a member of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann. I would love to get an A but I'd be aiming for a B. The hard part is studying the blessed thing!! I have difficulties sitting down and learning off phrases (especcially in the Poetry and Sceals).
I hope that these discussion boards and their member could help me to achieve my goal this summer.

Go Raibh Maith Agat,

Padraig

I can't believe there is a good Irish speaking teenager in the Dublin area. Fiar play to you!

My main problem is studying. I would appreciate on tips on how to study and get the vocab and phrases to stick into your head. For Jnr Cert this year we have letter writing, conversations (or interviews), Poetry, Stories and Reading Comprehension. My main faults are in Poetry (where we need to describe a certain theme for a poem) and Stories (where we need to descrive a certain theme for a story).

There's thousands of Gaeilgeoirí.. Literally! Students who attend Gaeltachtaí, Gaelscoileanna and indeed people who were 17 like me starting college.. just to mention a few..

It shouldn't be surprising that Irish people can speak Irish... But then again the world is a strange place..

Recommendations -
~ Do practice after practice for your Aural.. And then more. Learn how to spell frequently used words perfectly.

~ Concentrate on Paper one. Once again, practice will sort you for your comprehension passage.
What option are you doing on p1 apart from this?
The conversations are v.easy, if you want tips give me a title and us DALTAí will lash ya a freagra to be proud of!

~ Paper two is basically disgusting. Vile. Ufásach.

You were exactly like i was.. I had the exact same problems. I got a C... But that changed to an 'A' in the leaving..

Go to the Gaeltacht in Gaillimh when you get the chance.. Listen to Raidió na Life and Tg4, try and learn new words..

Déan an obair agus éireoidh go h-an mhaith leat!
Fair play to you A Phadráig, it's great that there's still young dubs interested in their national heritage. Fair play duit féin!

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river
