all beginners like you and me have hard time sometimes, I'm with you about T.Y. method: it looks easy at first, but it isn't so... manageable! If you buy buntús cainte be sure you won't encounter hard times any more: it's cheap, easy and gradually comprehensive; then you can enjoy T.Y. without difficulty, take my tip.
many wishes

buntús is accompanied with cassettes, but you can have them easily transferred on CD if you like. Any help you might need don't hesitate asking. I usually switch on my PC around ten o'clock italian time.

Maith thú! I agree enthusiastically with Mario. BC is old, and culturally a little dated (no mobile phones or computers in the little dialogues) but it's still the best. Use it with Progress in Irish (which is very inexpensive, and which Mbm was plugging here recently) agus beidh tú ceart go leor. Ádh mór!

Hello fellow beginners. I am also suffering with Teach Yourself (somewhat mired in chapter 4). Maybe I'll look into that buntús cainte, too. I did get a little lift from the Pimsleur CD's. I know they're not for everybody, and you don't learn everything you want to know, but they are great for the car and for initial confidence.

Croga75, you already asked a few of my TY questions elsewhere in these boards. Are you, and you Riona and Mario, in a class or working on your own?

im working on my own....im in New Mexico i have no choice, theres not exactly Éireannaigh pouring out of every home here haha. do you have the new book(2003) the cd is a bit more helpful in that ont than the old. ive also used the pimsleur cd's.theyre great for pronunciation....i would prefer to learn while reading though..to at least get a jist of the spelling. ive also recently found teach yourself irish grammar...i think im going to try that as well.its only like 9 bucks at walmart.com

Scríobh Marioberti:

buntús is accompanied with cassettes, but you can have them easily transferred on CD if you like.

Buntús Cainte was rereleased last year with audio CDs (with separate tracks for each lesson). It's available from litriocht.com & Oideas Gael. You can't, unfortunately, buy just the CDs, as they're packaged with the books in little sleeves in the covers. But the total cost for these books + CDs is now far less than it used to cost for the books + the tapes bought separately (as it's cheaper to produce CDs).
