My challenge is to translate
1.‘Blood is thicker than the Atlantic’ and
2.‘battle-axe’ (describing a person as in, ‘That old battle-axe will never die').

1. I have ‘blood is thicker than water’ translated as 'Aithníonn an fhuil a chéile.'
Or 'Is fearr beagán den ghaol ná mórán den charthanas.'

The piece in question is poetic so how about ‘Blood is thicker than the Atlantic’ as
Tá tonnta an dúchais níos láidre ná tonnta na farraige? The context of the piece suggests ties of country and heritage also. I’d love more suggestions and ceartúcháin, if you can.

2 Tua chatha ia a battle –axe but I doubt it’s ever used to describe a person (?). I was going to go with 'cailleach chantalach' for the battle-ax. Again I’d love more suggestions and ceartúcháin, if you can.

Buíochas i gcónaí,
Caitriona

Seo ceann eile: badhbh.

Bandia cogaidh a bhíodh inti, in éindí leis an Morrígan, Macha, agus Nemain. Badb Catha a bhí uirthi chomh maith. Na sainmhínithe in FGB:

1. War-goddess
3. Vulture; carrion-crow
4. Scold

Bhí Badb (Badhbh) pósta le Néit (Néid) agus bhí an mhallacht seo ann sa mheánaois: Bé Néit fort!
