Dia dhuit,
I've written a few posts and I'm contimplating registering as an official user. I would like to know what the benefit is to registering as opposed to just writing in as an unofficial user. Also, if I decide to register, or even if I don't, I want to start writing my name in a more Irish-looking way if possible. Since I know of no equivelent to it, I thought I'd just sound it out and spell it with letters that would make the same sounds. Since there isn't a K in Irish and you don't double Es I figured that I might spell it Cimi or Cimi(with a fada over the last I). Thanks.

I'd say "Cimí" (there are but very few words ending with a short i in Irish).

Except that "cime" means felon/convict, and Cimí is the plural.

Kimee, I think you should either leave your name as is, or find an Irish name with similar meaning (as Lughaidh has done!).

The main advantages with registering are
1) you can check which messages came since you last read the board (new messages link above)
2) Nobody can steal your handle!

There being more than one unregistered Robert haunting these hallowed halls, how do we know whether you're Robert the intelligent fellow or Robert the damnable miscreant?

At least Kimee's likely to have little or no competition, registered or not. And it makes a catchy moniker, rather like Elvis or Cher.

Go raibh maith agat. All of you are quite kind. I certainly don't want to be the fellon or the convict, so I'd better scratch my first plan. Kimee is short for something, which apparently has different meanings on different sites. The simplist I could find is "ruler", so don't think that I'm just overconfident or egotistical. In Foclair Poca its listed as "riail". Since Kimee is a shortened or nickname, I thought I might make it more affectionate or personal by adding "in" at the end, "riailin". I'd like to know if that makes any sense at all and if there's a better way to do it. Thanks again.

If you are of the female gender, you could take the name Ríona or Ríonach, which have to do with (ban)Ríon - queen.

Just thought I'd write one more time on this thread since I've just registered. Aonghus you are quite helpful and clever.

Beir bua agus beannacht.
(I send you my best wishes)
I hope this is said right and if it's not someone tell me,
thanks
