Plese can somebody tell me what the hyphens mean over the e,m, and o in the celtic script style of writing?
The o's and e's have a normal "french" style hyphen, but the m's have a small diamond type dot above them. Does anybody know what these mean in comparison with the same letters without them please??
Ta.

M or other consonant with a dot over it means lenition, a change in the sound usually represented in modern Irish by an "h" after the letter.

áóúéí are long vowels.

It lengthens the sound.

Coincidentally, many other consonants can also take the dot, not just m. They would be b,c,d,f,g,m,p,s,t
