"bosca aráin" -- too many letters? Maybe just "bosca" then? Or "toaster", which is just "tóstaer"? But hey, what are the aerodynamics of those things? |

I like 'conchró'. You could write the fada above the 'o' with a black marker without distorting the letter itself. The word 'con' refers to hounds, and is more appropriate for labradors (I think they were actually bred for hunting long ago) than the word 'madra' which translates your garden variety 'dog'. And a 'cró' is an enclosed space; to me it implies a small space. The word has a variety of meanings, including a socket, small building, or animal shed on a farm. 'Tigh con' is another idea. I'd translate it 'Hounds' house' or 'house of the hounds.' The word 'Tigh' is used for pub names. 'Tigh Murphy' = 'Murphy's House' or 'Murphy's Pub.' 'Tigh' (I'd pronounce it similar to 'chee', but be warned that my accent is terrible) is the dative singular of 'teach'. It's use is similar to that of the French 'chez.' Another good Irish word for license plates is 'sláinte' which translates literally 'health' and (as everybody knows) is a drinking toast. |

Hmmm. mo2madra - My 2 dogs. 8 letters. 2cú dubh - 2 black hounds. 7 letters + space cú istigh - hound inside. 8 letters. Yes, I realize it says only a single dog. It's a shot. :) síob con - hounds' ride. 7 letters + space I'm not so sure of the grammar on that though. I think more properly you'd use the article. Then again, there may be some who might argue to turn it into a compund word. |

quote:mo2madra - My 2 dogs. 8 letters Nope. "2" (dhá) lenites: mo2mhadra But mo2chú works just fine! quote:2cú dubh - 2 black hounds. 7 letters + space I think the excruciatingly correct version would be 2chú dhubha, although I'm not sure about the lenition of dhubha here. Even without it, you're over the limit on that. |

Ah yes, GRMA for the corrections there Dennis. I'd suggest painting the urú dots aobove the letters where they would go, but I don't know the legality of that in WA. Here in PA, it's illegal to make any sort of alterations to your plates - anything to make a buck from us. :-( con¿íob Gee, I thought that was cute. |

Bosca is masculine, so > bosca madra / bocsa madaidh, anyway. Tír Chonaill abú!
