Dia dhuit!
I am having a few Irish phrases included in various aspects of my wedding and one is at the end of our program. It will say: Thank you so much for sharing this happy day with us. (this is the Irish part): May God bless you.

Would that translation be: Go mbeannai Dia thu? Or Dia dhit? Or?

Any help would be appreciated.

"Go mbeannaí Dia thú" is may God bless you. I don't think dhit means anything.

Have you seen the revised & expanded The Traditional Irish Wedding by Bridget Haggerty. Minneapolis, MN: Irish Bookes & Media, 2005. 2nd ed. Besides sharing your namesake, the book has prayers and blessings as well as a great deal concerning Irish weddings. At my son's wedding last June, I recited an Altú Bia (blessing of the food)at the reception. I believe that your phrase might be Go mbeannaí Dia dhaoibh, but I will try to verify that. I'm certain someone else will post here the correct version if it is not that until then.

Michael's right about "daoibh." That's you plural, and it assumes the blessing is addressed to more than one person.

Micheal, yes, I have seen the informaton from Bridget Haggerty. In fact the front of my program will have the Irish prayer she referenced (By the power that Christ brought from Heaven, mayst thou love me...)on the front and will be read at the end of our service by the Reverend (right b-4 we are presented as husband & wife). I thought it was just beautiful.

Did I mention that we are getting married on St. Patrick's day! I'm very excited!
